It seems that Quentin Tarantino has a plan for his tenth and possibly last film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be named The Movie Critic and will be set in the 1970s with a female protagonist. THR suggests that it would be about Pauline Kael, a famous critic (as well as an essayist and writer) who died in 2001. Tarantino, who turns 60 in March and has directed nine films, has said that he intends to retire as a filmmaker after No. 10. Tarantino appears in the 2018 documentary What She Said: The Art of Pauline Kael. According to HuffPost, he says in the film: "Most directors, especially of the older generation, didn't really care that much for critics." . Tarantino's generation, on the other hand, "grew up with her as our kind of film Kerouac, if you will."

THR claims that The Movie Critic is not currently associated with any studio, but that it may be given to one shortly. According to THR, Sony is a possible acquirer since Tarantino has a tight connection with the company, which released his most recent feature, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. According to Sam Barsanti of the AV Club, the Kael narrative "could be a meta-lens that Tarantino could use to look at movies as a whole", and it absolutely sounds like the type of career capper that may fascinate him.
Tarantino told CNN's Chris Wallace in November that he was not in a huge rush to finish his last film. Per his comment, "Right now, I don't even know what a movie is. Is it something you can see on Netflix? Is that something that plays on Netflix? Is that something that plays on Amazon and ... people watch it on their couch with their wife or their husband? Is that a movie?"
